I work across various forms of media, including light projections, music, video animation, and performance.
I created a device powered by a ticking clock that used oak apples to strike the strings of a guitar. This invention led to a collection of self-playing instruments called The Oak Apple Orchestra, capable of generating an endless variety of rhythmic patterns. these instruments have been shown in various locations: London, Birmingham, Stourbridge, Worcester and in The Wyre Forest.
My latest project in this series features a clock motor with a smooth motion to rotate lightweight structures. The movement is captured on video and enhanced with echo animation. These videos, titled Rotation, are currently on display at the RBSA in Birmingham.
Using the light emitted by a television, I designed a cellular screen that transforms TV light into constantly shifting patterns. Several examples were shown at Lichtkunst aus Kunstlicht, ZKM Germany, Museum of Electricity, Lisbon, NFT, London and Capital Normal University, Beijing
Building on this concept, I developed larger screens for live performances called The Electric Shadow Show. These shows combined shadow dancers creating visual imagery with live music and were featured in theatres and festivals, including: Glastonbury, Big Chill, and in Pickle Art, Beijing
A CCTV camera connected to a projector enabled participants to see their pixelated images reimagined through the cellular screens.
I am presently developing a method to create graphic images on a translucent sand screen. This technique unveils hidden structures, which emerge as intricate two-dimensional pictures on the surface.
